"Mega Man X5," known as "Rockman X5" in Japan, is the fifth main installment in the Mega Man X series, developed by Capcom and released for the PlayStation in 2000. It was later ported to Microsoft Windows in 2002.

Gameplay and Features:

  • Storyline: The game is set in the 22nd century, where humans coexist with androids called Reploids. The story follows X and Zero as they face their nemesis, Sigma, who aims to destroy the planet and infect all Reploids with a virus.

  • Playable Characters: Players can choose to play as either X or Zero, each with their own unique abilities. X uses the X-Buster for ranged attacks, while Zero uses the Z-Saber for close combat.

  • Boss Battles: The game features eight selectable stages, each with a boss that must be defeated to acquire their special weapon.

  • New Mechanics: For the first time in the series, players can change the game's difficulty level. X and Zero also gain new movement mechanics, such as crouching and hanging from ropes.

  • Fourth Armor: X can equip the Fourth Armor, a less powerful version of his armor from Mega Man X4. Zero can use the Z-Buster weapon if he is not chosen at the start of the game.

Plot:

Several months after the Repliforce war, Earth is at peace. However, the space colony Eurasia is taken over by an unknown entity, which sets it on a collision course with Earth. The Maverick Hunters plan to use the Enigma cannon to destroy Eurasia before it crashes. X and Zero must race against time to collect the parts needed to upgrade the Enigma cannon and stop the colony.

Reception:

"Mega Man X5" received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its gameplay and the inclusion of Zero as a playable character. However, some criticized the game for its stale gameplay formula and presentation of the story.

Legacy:

The game was re-released as part of the "Mega Man X Collection" in 2006 and the "Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2" in 2018. It remains a beloved title among fans of the series and is remembered for its challenging gameplay and memorable boss battles.
